SACRED HEART DEVOTION DAY 16

Sacred Heart of Jesus, as a model of obedience.

We find in the gospel that during His lifetime in this world, our divine savior Jesus, willingly obeyed the wishes of the eternal Father. His last words while dying on the cross was “It is finished”. The moment He was born into this world, until His painful and shameful crucifixion His sole intention was to fulfill the will of His heavenly Father. During His earthly life He served and obeyed not only His heavenly Father, but all those who represented the Father in name and command. Even to this day, He comes down during holy mass, obeying the words of the priest who is offering the mass. He does not do this based on the quality of the priest. Incredible obedience! We lowly creatures are reluctant to obey our heavenly Father, who is our creator and lord. Man, who is dust and who returns to dust! Why are you so arrogant? Doesn’t the obedience of your King, Creator and Father, the Son of God make you ashamed? If the lord and creator of the universe obeys us humans, then why doesn’t God’s consul prostrate before Him? Why do we hesitate to obey His divine commandments and the commandments of the Church which is the mystical body of Christ? The Holy Gospel testifies that those who are obedient to God can only succeed in life.So let us obediently follow the divine commandments and attain eternal happiness.

INVOCATION

Sacred Heart of Jesus, most obedient! From the time of Your incarnation, until the moment of Your death on the cross, You were obedient to the heavenly Father. Also, You are present in all the holy masses offered throughout the world, obeying the words of the priest. Jesus full of love and mercy! Help me to be obedient like You, and bless me to obey all Your commandments faithfully.

Grant to Your Church, O Lord, assurance of freedom, protect our Supreme Pontiff and make haste that all may know the haven of truth, and have unity of faith, so that there may soon be one fold and one Shepherd! Lord, be merciful to the unfortunate sinners, console the souls in Purgatory and be merciful to me, your unworthy servant. O Immaculate Heart of Mary, O Mother of all blessings, I firmly believe that through your powerful intercession, all my prayers and petitions will be granted. Amen

Let us pray

Almighty and eternal God, look upon the Heart of Thine most-beloved Son, and upon the praises and satisfaction He offers Thee in the name of sinners; and appeased by worthy homage, pardon those who implore Thy mercy, in Thy Great Goodness in the name of the same Jesus Christ Thy Son, Who lives and reigns with Thee, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, world without end. Amen.
